Following our recruitment drive last year we are pleased to announce that we’ve now hired our apprentices to work across The Rakem Group.
Each one of our apprentices will be introduced as we work with them to build upon their skills and development. This week we take a look at Danny Ashburner – Sales Support Executive.
Danny joins Rakem from Colchester University where he was studying for a sport’s degree. Regularly playing for Ramsbottom United, Danny is a keen footballer and recently won Man of the Match in our Bury Hospice fundraising tournament.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship at The Rakem Group?
The reason I joined the Rakem group is simple, they are a great local company and have an excellent reputation within the area. Since joining, my expectations have been exceeded. It is a brilliant working environment with friendly people in all departments.
The reason I opted for an apprenticeship route is that, whilst attending university, I decided I would like to pursue a career but wanted to remain in education. An apprenticeship is the perfect option as it combines learning and working which is ideal for myself.
What is the most important thing you have learnt from your apprenticeship to date?
The most crucial thing which I have learnt whilst at Rakem is that communication is key. It is a vital aspect to ensure that everyone’s job can be done fluently and effectively.
What does a normal day look like?
From when I started to now, my days look completely different. When I first started my focus was helping the sales team when they needed extra support, such as sending quotes and preparing samples. However five months down the line I feel like Rakem has put a lot of trust in me and now I am responsible for a number of our accounts. It’s great to get out of the office and visit these customers.
What is the highlight of your apprenticeship so far?
The highlight of my apprenticeship so far is being able to work with the people I do. The atmosphere is great and I enjoy the social side of work as there is always something to get involved with. There is never a boring or dull day in the office.
“Danny is a valuable member of the Rakem sales team. In such a short space of time he has integrated well into the role and is able to balance on the job training with his academic studies. His enthusiasm to learn is Danny’s most endearing quality. We see Danny taking on more responsibility in the next few months as his professionalism and attitude have been outstanding.”
